Jazz Lick #1 (Major ii V)
by Dan PalladinoThis lick is in the key of Bb major. This will definitely be useful in a jazz context, but will also work over rock tunes that use the C Dorian scale.
Jazz standards tend to contain many ii-V progressions, where C-7 = ii, F9 = V, Bb = I. Try practicing this lick in descending whole-step or half-step patterns, as in a bebop tune. The hammer-on and pull-off markings are included as suggestions only. If these techniques aren't your style, feel free to pick every note. Have fun! --DP
